Untitled

Leaving home
The first step
Of a thousand mile journey
To find our way back home

Road unfolding
Universes slipping by
Possibilities
Maybes
What ifs
Fading along the periphery
As the path opens up before us
To what is

Flying above the wanderer
Becoming more
Becoming all
Breathing in
This chaotic madness
This wonderful
Terrible
Absurdity
That flows all around and through us

Surrender
And never stop fighting
To leave
To return
To circle right back in and realize everything was always right
Encircling the Child in our arms
Whispering everything will be okay
Even when it isn’t
Because this is all we have

This moment
To live and die
Growing and changing
And hurting and struggling
Loving and wondering
Awestruck
At the ineffable infinite
In these brief glimpses of gnosis

Breathe
Laugh
Cry
Sing
Dance
Scream

Be

Love

Love even the fear
Love even the pain
Love even the tragedy

Because in these we find ourselves
Burning away the illusion
Burning down to the core
Forging reality with the choices
That bring us here

Awaken
Dream with eyes wide open
Swelling into belonging
Peace

And still the miles pass
Journey from
Journey to
Just journey
Stumble
Succeed
This is yours
This is mine
This winding adventure
That is inevitably us

This poem was written inspired by the final scene in the show Six Feet Under.  If you haven’t watched it, I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoyed this poem.  It is a hell of a commitment, and a long and very exhausting show, but it is worth every second, and I hope it can change your life the way it has left a mark on mine.
